Play YouTube When Screen is Locked on Android Phone (Without Paying for YouTube Premium)

This is a legitimate requirement, for example, when I only need to listen to the audio track of a YouTube video while placing my phone in my pocket during commute hours.

Typically, if you don’t pay YouTube Premium membership, you don’t have this “play in the background” feature on your YouTube app. And now there is a workaround:

1. Download “Brave Browser” app
2. Open the “Brave” app’s settings and enable “Background video playback” option
3. Use Brave to browse youtube.com and play your favorite videos
4. Switch to the home screen and lock up your screen and you’ll notice that audio keeps playing even the screen is locked
